Welcome to our web page and blog. Pathfinder Construction was started in 1999, to offer families a construction company to build their new home or remodel their exisiting home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.
We purchased a home here in 1986, and spent every chance we had here enjoying the San Juan Mountains and all that southwest Colorado has to offer our family.
Our three sons loved to come here to hike, rock climb, ski at Wolf Creek Ski Area, and fly fish. We have spent summer vacations and holidays enjoying all that this area has to offer and made the decision to move here permanently in 1999. We decided to build homes for people who wanted to do the same thing we did and ‘find their way home’ to Pagosa Country.
Currently, Steve and I have been here building new homes and remodeling homes for the last 13 years and we have enjoyed our work completely. We have had the opportunity to meet and get to know families from all over the United States. We have built homes for them and continue to be good friends and keep up with these families when they come to Pagosa Springs.
Our son, Thad, loves living here and being in Pagosa Springs. He is a firefighter with the Pagosa Fire Protection District and loves what he does and continues to take classes and train for the many different kinds of things that firefighters need to be ready to do when you live in the western half of the United States and wildland fires and forest fires are all too common. He also hosts a radio show here – Positive About Pagosa – where he shares all of the great things going on in the area.
Steve and Jane keep busy working on the various projects we do for our clients. We spend a lot of time with our customers taking them through the construction process here in southwest Colorado – it is more involved than other locations because of the altitude, the weather conditions, and the mountain terrain. It is important to us that everyone we work with has a very clear picture of what they need to know to build a well constructed home that will weather the test of time.
Attention to detail and careful planning and budgeting is critical to the home building or remodeling process. We take your house plans and provide a LINE ITEM budget (that can be anywhere from 55 – 80 items listed) – each item needed and/or wanted in your home is included in this line item budget with a clear actual cost listed as an integral part of the preliminary planning and budgeting for your home. It is then up to the client to determine what choices they make for their new home and the costs for those choices. This attention to detail takes time in the beginning of the process, but is well worth that prep time to determine and finalize the cost and the look and feel of the client’s new home.
Steve is an award-winning decoy carver. This requires amazing attention to detail as each decoy carved requires this same attention to detail as there is in building a home.
Jane knits and quilts for her family and friends. She enjoys working with Pathfinder clients in meeting with the cabinet maker, the interior designer and other sub contractors to discuss and plan the look and feel of our client’s Pathfinder home.
